perl-5.8.6 compile fine when using pkgsrc.  I think the patch that
went into pkgsrc is being pushed up-stream into the main perl cvs
tree.  You should try using pkgsrc because a lot more software
packages compile using it currently.  There is a write up at
http://gobsd.com/node/163  on how to get started using pkgsrc on
DragonFly.
