xorg opera suse libs problem

I was having no success with getting TrueType fonts to work on www/opera
built from pkgsrc-current sources. Finally I found out about the
--debugfont option for starting opera. This gives:

~ > opera --debugfont 
<snip>
Loading Xft library from Opera executable failed. Trying to load it on
our own.
Trying to load Xft 2...
        dlopen("libXft.so.2") failed: libfontconfig.so.1: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
        dlopen("libXft2.so") failed: libXft2.so: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
        Failed. Trying again, really hard this time, by opening
libfontconfig on our own
        dlopen("libfontconfig.so.1") failed
        Failed
Trying to load Xft 1...

        Failed

[Running the same thing on my NetBSD 4.99.xx slice with a near-identical setup
succeeds in loading Xft 2...]

So, it seems that these libs can't be found. They do exist though
(firefox2 is not installed BTW - won't build):

What am I missing in my configuration? 

I have meta-pkgs/xorg and these suse packages:
