/usr/src, make, docs

Hi!
Where can i find documentation about make build[world,kernel] process
in DragonFly? I mean, what is being compiled in stages, why should i
make clean and stuff like that. I'm not interested enough to analyze
Makefiles, I'd like to understand the whole process and than i'll be
able to read them, i hope:-)
