How to get DGUI working over ssh?

I have my pfi configured box up and running from the LiveCD of DFly.  I ssh in
and run 'installer' correct?

I then see messages that the DFUI is starting, connection 9999, something
about the state machine starting, then... nothing.

Shouldn't I get the curses interface?
