Worked great!  This is the only difference I've spotted so far:

-r-xr-xr-x   1 root  wheel  -    3147164 Jun 23 10:36 kernel*
-r-xr-xr-x   1 root  wheel  -    3106173 Jun 22 07:09 kernel.old*

Heh, gotta love that gcc progress ;-)
