Why worry about the overhead at all? From my experience, the overhead is not
that big.

Yes, it loads up an extra few megs of memory, but cant we afford that? If
you strip down PHP to only include support for what you actually _need_, and
trim the config, it should be fine.

To be honest, what kind of load are we expecting on the website?
