recomended reading?

Besides bringing myself up to speed on C and the books that will
require, is there any recomended reading appropriate to the BSD
networking implementation, and/or BSD kernel coding?  I realize
there's no DFBSD specific tomes yet, but can I safely get FreeBSD
specific material as a safe start or has DFBSD drifted significantly
away already?
