Prototype, not really usable.  A big effort is still needed to use the 
buffer/page cache.

I'd suggest going with the model Daniel started:  Copy the sources from 
a version, using wrapper files and functions, modifying the code as 
little as possible.  The code needs to be obtained via a full checkout 
first.
