This now branches the 2.2 release branch.

Please everybody try to focus on fixing outstanding bugs for release.

Fixes will be pushed to master, as before.  After testing, we then will 
merge these fixes into the release branch.

Matt will follow up with a more detailed release schedule.

Again to make absolutely sure:  only bug fixes go into the repo, push to 
master!

Thanks to everybody for the good work and thanks for giving the new 
release candidate a spin to flesh out the remaining bugs.

To try, simply update to master (not any release branch) and give it extra 
hard treatment.
