Thanks, I just downloaded the latest release iso dated 9-11-08 and it 
boots fine with ACPI.  Go figure.  Not sure what happened with the 
9-4-08 snapshot.  Maybe I got a corrupt file?  If so, sorry for the 
false alarm.
