Does your kernel have support for ums (USB mice)?  If not, try doing
'#kldload ums' and see if that helps.

I think I read that disabling legacy USB support in your BIOS may fix
strange problems -- sometimes.

Are you trying to use the mouse in X, or at a console, or both?
Are you running moused?
