Hmm.  Well, this particular 'instantiation' of the problem just started
this morning.  I'm posting this from 'my other DFly machine' which was
last updated two days ago and mozilla is working fine.

I'd bet my lunch money that when I update this machine the same problem
will surface.  I'll try it and let you know.
